Brookhaven combines structured academic learning, social development, creative experiences and hands-on exploration in a supportive, non-pressured setting.
Preschool Curriculum & Classroom Approach
Academic Learning
Children build language, reading, math and science skills through stories, discussion, visual materials, games and direct exploration. Classroom tools may include books, puppets, flannel and magnetic boards, counters, blocks, pegboards, matching objects, magnifying glasses, microscopes, scales and simple experiments.
Social & Emotional Growth
Teachers encourage sharing, cooperation, responsibility and respect through positive reinforcement, clear age-appropriate limits, group activities, dramatic play and collaborative projects. Predictable routines and classroom responsibilities help children develop confidence and independence.
Physical & Creative Development
Recess and physical education provide opportunities for active play and gross-motor development. Art, cutting, painting, gluing, building, music, movement and storytelling help children strengthen fine-motor skills and express creativity.
Education Through Creation
Curriculum experiences include Spanish, Creative Music and Movement, hands-on science experiments, health, celebrations of national holidays and cultures, and special guests throughout the year. Pre-K and Kindergarten students also use the computer lab daily.
Classroom Techniques
Teachers use rotating centers, identifying and classifying activities, visual demonstrations, manipulatives and guided exploration. These techniques give children repeated opportunities to see, discuss, practice and apply new concepts.
